I shudder at the thought that even the colour of our blood would change under these circumstances. Would it be vibrant or a dehumanising grey to match corporate dystopian paradigm that brought about these circumstances? Brilliant writing, I fully believe if it were possible that many a company would bid for the opportunity.

I find this short story to perfect for a short film adaptation. I think that watching r... Right stuff be of another colour would be an interesting aesthetic experience. :)

Aye, it did occur to me when writing this that you could have a lot of fun playing with the colour palette in film. It gives you a lot of options: shots before/after the inciting event are immediately distinguishable by the colour of the scene, so you could weave in flashbacks at will with no other signposting.

"What medium is this story best suited for?" is actually a great question to ask yourself when writing; I'll probably add an article on this topic in future.

I think it would be cool to have a character trying to remember things of the right colour, only to fail (similar to Winston in 1984)

But that wouldn't match the tone of this story 😬

"Well, it is a bit of a bummer I suppose, but what can you do? I don’t want to cause a fuss over something as silly as colours."

Reminds me of the people that use similar arguments to excuse race swapping caucasian characters.

"It's just a fairly tale"

"it's just a kids show"

"It's just a make believe story"

Very well written, witty, and just on the nose enough! I love the shots fired at the urban BBC and the dead horse of the NHS- very timely as it just turned 75 and my 18 year old dog is faring far better.

This was brilliant! (Especially as a listen. Those accents are risky business, sir. Well done you.)

Charmingly English humour, with shades of Douglas Adams and Pratchett. Even had a hint of C. S. Lewis's sinisterly blasé bureaucracy from That Hideous Strength.

Is red itself only removed? What about the argument that pink is just pale/light red? And I found an interesting lack of purples and oranges mentioned (mainly greens, blues, yellows, greys) but after that bubblegum pink slipped I’m curious now!

And what about traffic lights? No longer can red be seen to stop but depending if one considers the slow as orange instead of yellow… well potentially all that could be seen is green for go, no?

Fantastic premise and brilliantly crafted :)

I just noticed that you used the R word in the story.

Did you pay for the rights to do that?

Otherwise I suggest you to title the story: "The abolition of the right colour", just to avoid legal troubles ;)
